Stitching progress and a couple of finishes! Yipee

Well Easter has been and gone, the clocks have changed again back an hour as we head into Winter. The nights are drawing in and the leaves are falling. Easter was good. I got some stitching done but not as much as I initially thought I might squeeze in. I spent some lovely quality time hanging out with my whanau (family) in the Catlins. A beautiful, wild place not far from where we live. I have an almost finish, I need to complete my name band and then my large English Garden band sampler is done. I am trying to figure out what I will stitch on either side of my name. Once I have decided it will take an hour or so to complete. This has been a large stitching project that I have loved stitching. I am very happy with my sampler and will be getting it framed in the

Guo Pei Exhibition

Last week I flew from Dunedin to Auckland to visit the Guo Pei Exhibition being held at the Auckland Art Gallery. December 2023 - May 2024 The gallery has on display 60 of Guo Pei's dresses. I was introduced to her a few years ago by a friend who shares a mutual interest in all things textile. Before I went I did some more homework on Guo Pei. I looked through a book I already own from an earlier exhibition, watched a film about her Yellow Is Forbidden and listened to a few interviews with her. I also booked myself on the guided tour of the exhibition which was for an hour. Guo Pei is a Chinese fashion designer who lives in Beijing. She started as a fashion designer after the Chinese Cultural Revolution in the 1970s. Through her life she has worked as a designer for others, independently to sell to the mass market, then more exclusively to clients and finally she worked to be included in the Haute Couture fashion industry of France. It's September and I'm away - again!

Currently I am in Auckland, I am up here to teach two classes to the members of the Northern North Island area of New Zealand. The past two days I have taught my Reticella Pin Drum class to a lovely bunch of ladies. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my time with them and they did an excellent job. In a day or so I am teaching a design class on Tea Cups to another group. This should be loads of fun as I love designing and hope to be inspired by them as much as I hope I inspire their work. I started well with the whole stitch on a focus sampler for August. I worked on my A Peacock, A Unicorn & A Badger first. I got quite a bit stitched on her as I was away and had loads of time. Next up was my Ann Tong Uffindell sampler and I set myself a goal of finishing her border. I had 8 - 10 flowers to fill in and the wee fiddly crosses around the border to do.
